I've often wondered why the Republicans are so hell bent on keeping homosexuality a 'dirty sin' and gay people subjugated, hated and without any rights.
I used to believe it was in order to woo the bible-thumpers, who we are told are an enormous, wealthy group who love to vote. And that might be true. But recently, I think I've found another reason for their all out war on homosexuals. A reason that would explain why even Republicans who are gay themselves are invested in denigrating lesbians and, in particular, gay men.
I think it's the trump card, played to keep the other members in line... follow me into some odd territory:
What with the latest on
Duke Cunningham and now Brent Wilkes I thought I'd just link up a
coupla innerestin thangs that have occupied a room in my head and which seem to be connected. They also do a handy job of making my case that homosexuality, for the GOP, MUST remain seriously taboo or else they lose a useful tool in their arsenal.
Think about it this way: If you wanted to pass a bunch of legislation that most thinking people knew was A. bad for the environment; B. undermined democracy; C. Caused wars; D. Enriched already rich folks at the expense of everyone else; E. was otherwise illegal - what would you do?
Sure, bribery is a choice. But bribery really means that you put a price on someone's ethics. That's not good enough. There will always be those people whose ethics are too pricey. Not to mention that those people might out you before you got a chance to successfully bribe anyone else.
Bribery is inherently risky.
Blackmail is so much more effective. And what would the ultimate in blackmail entail? Well, it seems that catching someone in a homosexual act - or some other socially suspect sexual adventure (legal or illegal) has been the road most rewardingly traveled. A mere blow job nearly brought down a very popular democratic president. And Democrats supposedly don't care as much about sexual indescretion as do Republicans.
It follows that framing up any elected Repulican in a non-married sex-scenario would cause his or her quick demise. If this sexual indiscretion were to be with.. oh, I don't know, a person of the same sex or someone underage.. well that would be suicide inducing. If you had photographic evidence of the encounter? My money is that that Repulican would do anything to stop the production of those photos.
Simple, really.
So, now, I ask you to look at these little items, some of which have already been mentioned here on Dkos, some I haven't seen yet, possibly because they are too 'out there.'
Credible or questionable, I'm going to list a few of my favourites here:
Kay Griggs' allegations that the army routinely recruits "susceptible" future leaders from universities and compromises them early, to be used as tools later on.
MK ULtra allegedly had many potential uses, not the least of which was to compromise influential people, record their misdeeds, and use the evidence for blackmail.
The Franklin Cover-Up and Judge Urbom's 1 million dollar award to Paul Bonacci prove that if any of the rest of this ever gets into a court of law, there is credible evidence supporting the claims of the victims involved.
Craig Spence, alleged ring-master of the 1988-89 White House prostitution scandal is killed.. oops, found dead. So were Gary Caradori and William Colby and several other folks connected to the Franklin Community Credit Union Investigation which unearthed the claims of the child sex-ring and its connections to the Bush Sr. White House.
It's all very disturbing and "coincidental."
For more reading, look up Senator John DeCamp. You'll find everything you need to know by following that trail.
So ... the answer to the question, for me at least, as to why the GOP feigns hatred for male-male sex ... is less about religion than about political control. If the country and the government accept homosexuality it'll be more difficult for the corrupt elements to get their twisted unethical agendas passed into law.
